Die Situation zeigt Elemente einer Installation der in Wien lebenden Künstlerin Amy Croft (*1983), die zuvor vom Demonstrationsraum der Studierenden der Akademie der bildenden Künste produziert wird und sich dort als räumliche Struktur mit dem Block-Seminar "Gegenwart kuratorischer Praxis" (13. - 15. Januar) überlagert.

Das von Soeren Grammel abgehaltene Seminar findet mit geladenen Gästen statt, die den SeminarteilnehmerInnen mit Vorträgen, Inputs und Diskussionen begegnen werden. Diese Gäste sind in Reihenfolge ihres Auftretens Marion von Osten, Diedrich Diedrichsen, Diana Baldon und Hedwig Saxenhuber (zu diesen Personen siehe unten).

Die Präsentation im Kunstverein wird die Raumelemente Crofts mit Video-Dokumentationen dieser Vorträge und Diskussionen in neuer Weise mischen. Literatur wird in diesem Kontext aufscheinen, die während des Seminars diskutiert wurde. Der so entstehende Raum ist eine Mischung aus Ausstellungs- und Studienraum.

Die Installation von Amy Croft überschneidet sich zwar mit den Handlungen des Demoraumseminars »Gegenwart kuratorischer Praxis«, wird sich aber nicht auf einer rein funktionalen Ebene darauf beziehen lassen (als pure Möblierung etc.) - sondern es geht auf einer abstrakteren Ebene auch um die methodologischen Aspekte von dessen Gegenstand.
Über das Mittel verschiebbarer Raumteiler wird sich Croft auf die verschiedenen Ebenen von Öffentlichkeiten und TeilnehmerInnen des Seminars beziehen.

Crofts Interesse an gebauten Strukturen ist Teil ihrer Auseinandersetzung mit Architekturpraxis. Sie interessiert sich für die Bedeutung der sozialen Verhältnisse und kommunikativen Prozesse, die sowohl bei der Entstehung von Architektur als auch innerhalb kuratorischer Arbeit eine maßgebliche Bedeutung haben – und zwar sowohl während der Entstehung von Projekten als auch später in ihrer Nutzung.

Eine Arbeit, die kürzlich zu diesem Thema entstand, basiert auf der Untersuchung eines partizipatorischen Wohnsiedlungsprojektes des Grazer Architekten Eilfried Huth. Dabei hat Croft in ihrer Installation Materialien und Darstellungsformen eingesetzt, die auf andere Weise zuvor zwischen den BewohnerInnen und dem Architekten als Kommunikations- und Verhandlungsmittel während des Planungsprozesses dienten.

Diana Baldon: Freie Kuratorin (zuletzt 2. The situation shows elements of an installation by the Vienna-based artist Amy Croft (*1983), which were produced beforehand by the Demonstration Space of the students of the Academy of Fine Arts and overlap there as a spatial structure with the block seminar “Current Curatorial Practice” (13 – 15 January).

The seminar, held by Sören Grammel, takes place with invited guests, who present the seminar participants with lectures, input and discussions. In the order of their appearance, these guests are Marion von Osten, Diedrich Diedrichsen, Diana Baldon and Hedwig Saxenhuber (details on the guests can be found below).

The presentation in the Kunstverein will mix the spatial elements with video documentation of these lectures and discussions in a new way. Literature will appear in this context, which is discussed during the seminar. The resultant space will be a mixture of exhibition and study space.

Although Amy Croft’s installation overlaps with the activities of the Demo Space seminar “Contemporary Curatorial Practice”, it will not relate to it at a purely functional level but rather deals with the methodological aspect of its object at a more abstract level as well. Using moveable room dividers, Croft refers to the various levels of public spheres and participants of the seminar.

Croft’s interest in built structures is part of her engagement with architectural practice. She is interested in the importance of social relations and communicative processes, which have a substantial significance not only for the creation of architecture, but also within curatorial work – both during the development of projects and later in their use.

A recently created work on this theme is based on the investigation of a participatory residential development project by the Graz architect Eilfried Huth. Here Croft uses materials and forms of representation in her installation, which had previously served as means of communication and negotiation between the residents and the architect in a different way during the planning process.
