We Eat The Ones We Love is a participatory reading group and collective meal in real and virtual space. This event looks at Food and Death through the shared examination and discussion of three texts, followed by shared food. Invited guests Michelle Darmody (Gradcam) and Mick Wilson (University of Gothenberg) will co-host the conversation together with artist Fiona Hallinan. Both virtual and real time participants will be furnished with a custom made kit/parcel to allow them to share in a distanced yet collective meal. Those joining virtually will be sent the parcels in advance via post, those joining physically will receive them on the day.

Fiona Hallinan is an artist, researcher and co-founder of the Department of Ultimology, based between Brussels, Belgium and Cork, Ireland. She is interested in thresholds, gestures of hospitality, embodied knowledge and instigating uncanny encounters between individuals and things. Her work has been shown at Kerlin Gallery, IMMA, Mother’s Tankstation and Brown University. She is currently a PhD candidate at KU Leuven/LUCA School of Arts in Ghent, Belgium and is part of the Orthogonal Methods Group (OMG), a research group based at CONNECT, the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Future Networks and Communications. OMG is a research platform within CONNECT that works in critical and creative relation/tension with technology. In her ongoing affiliation with the Grazer Kunstverein, Austria, Fink's is a project that enacts research through hospitality. It is a bar that sits in the threshold of the gallery and responds to exhibiting works, while producing powders, tinctures and meals for visiting artists and audiences using ingredients, knowledge and methods drawn from the surrounding environment.
